Up to 3 PhD student positions in Programming Languages..
Publicerades: 22:e November 2018 Sista ansökningsdagen: 5:e Januari 2019
Information about the research
We invite applications for PhD positions in Programming Languages and Systems for Security and Privacy. We are looking for applicants with a technical background in security, programming languages, and systems. The PhD students will join a high-profile group of researchers on software security. Software is often the root cause of vulnerabilities in modern computing systems. By focusing on securing the software, we target principled security mechanisms that provide robust protection against large classes of attacks.
Information about the department
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is a joint department at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg, with activities on two campuses in the city of Gothenburg. The department has around 240 employees from over 30 countries and enrols a number of PhD students from more than 30 countries. Our research has a wide span, from theoretical foundations to applied systems development. We provide high quality education at Bachelor's, Master's and graduate levels, offering over 120 courses each year. We also have extensive national and international collaborations with academia, industry and society.
For more information about the department, see https://www.chalmers.se/cse/en.
Major responsibilities
As a PhD student the majority of your time will be research related, where you are expected to work on developing scientific concepts, techniques, and tools and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing. The funding for the PhD positions is part of ambitious framework project WebSec: Securing Web-driven Systems, funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) and dedicated to principled security and privacy for the web.

Your major responsibilities are to pursue your own doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing, both in Swedish and in English. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 per cent of working hours.
Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 per cent of working hours. Salary for the position is as specified in Chalmers' general agreement for PhD student positions.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a Master's Degree or corresponding degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or in a related discipline. As for all PhD studies, a genuine interest and curiosity in the subject matter and excellent analytical and communication skills, both oral and written, are needed. You may apply even if you have not completed your degree, but expect to do so before the position starts.
Knowledge of Swedish is not a prerequisite for applying since English is our working language for research, and we publish internationally. Both Swedish and English are used in undergraduate courses. Chalmers offers Swedish courses. Half of our researchers and PhD students at the department come from more than 30 different countries.
Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
