PhD:Modeling of quantum light-matter interactions at the nanoscale

Publicerades: 28:e September 2018 Sista ansökningsdagen: 31:e December 2018

Quantum Plasmonics at Chalmers
At Chalmers, we are building a strong research environment in Quantum Plasmoncis, supported by the Swedish Research Council. It connects between and builds upon the two established research fields of Plasmonics and Microwave Quantum Optics, at the department of Physics and at the department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience, respectively. The vision is to deliver a room-temperature quantum technology for controlled photon-photon interaction at the single photon level. This PhD project will further benefit from synergies with the quantum microwave modeling activities in the Wallenberg Center for Quantum Technology.

About the Applied Quantum Physics Laboratory at the department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience
At the Applied Quantum Physics Laboratory (AQP lab), we work on theoretical aspects of future high-performance nano-electronic systems. Our research covers a broad spectrum of problems, everything from the fundamental problems to the very applied ones.

We work in close collaboration with the experimental groups at the department as well as the Bionanophotonics division of the department of Physics through the Quantum Plasmonics (2017-2022) grant from the Swedish Research Council. We are also a part of the Wallenberg Center for Quantum Technology (WACQT).

The MC2 Department houses a state-of-the-art Nanofabrication Laboratory cleanroom facility. The QDP+QT Labs has the most modern equipment for experiments at low temperatures (millikelvins) and with microwaves.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities are to pursue your own doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing, both in Swedish and in English. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 per cent of working hours.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.

Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- MSc in Physics, Applied Physics, Theoretical Physics or equivalent.
- Fluency in English, oral and written; interest and skills in working collaboratively as well as independently.

Desired qualifications:
- Experience in quantum field theory, circuit-QED, solid-state physics, superconductivity, quantum information.

To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in a relevant field.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. If Swedish is not your native language, you should be able to teach in Swedish after two years. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
