Chalmers Cosmic Origins Postdoctoral Fellowships

Publicerades: 4:e Oktober 2018 Sista ansökningsdagen: 5:e December 2018

Information about the positions
These postdoctoral fellowship positions, part of the Chalmers Initiative on Cosmic Origins (CICO), will be hosted in the Galactic Astronomy unit in the Astronomy & Plasma Physics (AoP) division, within the Dept. of Space, Earth & Environment (SEE). SEE contains five divisions, with research & education spanning from global challenges related to sustainability & energy supply to astronomy & space sciences. SEE also hosts two major infrastructures, Onsala Space Observatory (OSO) & Chalmers Power Central, and consists of about 250 employees.

AoP is situated both at the main Johanneberg Campus in Gothenburg and at OSO in Onsala. OSO is the Swedish national facility for Radio Astronomy and operates telescopes in Sweden, shares in the APEX telescope in Chile, and hosts the Nordic ALMA Regional Center (ARC). Research in the Galactic Astronomy unit covers a wide range of topics, including interstellar medium (ISM) studies, astrochemistry, star & planet formation, and evolved stars. Other research fields in AoP include observational cosmology, galaxy formation & evolution and galaxy clusters.

Several fellowships are advertised:

(1) Chalmers Cosmic Origins Fellowship: One or more positions are 3-year fellowships at Chalmers. A successful applicant will lead an ambitious, independent research program related to Cosmic Origins science, expected to align with the wide range of research at Chalmers, including OSO & ALMA ARC.

(2) Chalmers-MPIA Cosmic Origins Fellowship: One fellowship is part of the Chalmers-MPIA fellowship that is a 4-year position, shared between Chalmers (2 years) and Max-Planck-Inst. for Astronomy in Heidelberg, Germany (2 years).

(3) Chalmers-UVA Cosmic Origins Fellowship: One fellowship (funding pending) is part of the Chalmers-UVA fellowship that is a 4-year position, shared between Chalmers (2 years) and Dept. of Astronomy, Univ. of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, USA (2 years). A successful applicant will lead an ambitious, independent research program related to Cosmic Origins science, expected to align with the wide range of research at the two host institutes.

(4) Chalmers-MPE Cosmic Origins Fellowship: One fellowship (funding pending) is part of the Chalmers-MPE fellowship that is a 4-year position, shared between Chalmers (2 years) and the Center for Astrochemical Studies at the Max-Planck-Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE) (Garching, Germany) (2 years). A successful applicant will lead an ambitious, independent research program related to Cosmic Origins science, expected to align with the wide range of research at the two host institutes.

For all fellowships, funds and opportunities for dissemination and international collaboration will be available. Fellows will be encouraged to lead work that is in close collaboration with the other members of the group and partner institutes. Details of SEE research activities may be found here and more specifically about CICO here.
